The Best Scope Mounts and Rings for the 10/22

| Last Updated:
April 15, 2024

The Ruger 10/22 is a must-have rifle because of its accuracy and significant range. However, the receiver of the Ruger 10/22 is made up of aluminum while the screws on it are made of pure steel.

This could leave you with the choice between leaving your scope a bit loose, or peeling of the threads of the receiver.

Instead of damaging your rifle with the scope mount that comes included, you should consider an upgrade.

Why is it Important to Have a Good Scope Mount and Rings?

A good scope mount could make all the difference between hitting the bullseye and missing the target completely. A scope mount fixes on the receiver of your rifle and helps you align your scope with the barrel. It basically forms the base for your scope. The scope rings are then mounted on the scope mount.

A good scope gives you just enough vision that you can see everything yet focus on the target perfectly. With the right mount and rings, you’ll be able to keep that view steady and get the true shot you need.

Alignment is Key

Before locking the scope, the alignment of the scope is checked with respect to the rifle. This is done by using a level or a slope indicator. After aligning the scope, the screws at the end are bolted in with little nags just to make sure that alignment doesn’t move.

A good scope mount doesn’t move or shift its alignment and keeps itself tightly stuck to the rifle. Good rings on a stable mount hold the scope in place while allowing you to pull the scope back as much as possible to have enough eye relief.

What to Look Out For

One of the most common mistakes Ruger 10/22 rifle owners make while buying scope mounts and rings is forgetting about the weight. If you want to add a good scope on your rifle it’s going to weigh a good bit alone.

The scope mount and the rings are going to add a bit to it as well. That’s more weight for you to hold while in shooting position. You don’t want to compromise the performance of the scope nor its stability.

But if you add a lot of weight to your Ruger 10/22, holding it steady is going to be a problem. So, instead of buying heavier scope mounts and scope rings you need lighter yet stronger mounts. This could be achieved only with the high-quality weaver type aluminum mounts.

Besides that, most mounts tend to become loose, over a period of time. This could be as little as a few hours of shooting. The reason behind screws becoming loose is not fixable just with Loctite or thread lock. It’s about the type of material you are using as scope mount. Loctite and thread lock do help a great deal but there’s a limit to what they can do.

What the Pros Use

If you want to become a pro, you either learn from one or do what they do. A few scope mounts don’t even fit perfectly on the Ruger 10/22 rifle. Instead of giving you better control at your aim, a few types of scope mounts mess it up instead. A misaligned scope and barrel is one of the most dominant reasons behind it.

Benefits of Upgrading Your 10/22 Scope and Rings

Are you considering finally swapping out the stock scope and rings on your Ruger 10/22, but not sure you’re ready to commit? We’ve outlined the best reasons you should just go ahead and take the plunge.

Better View, Better Accuracy

Sure, it’s the obvious reason, but let’s be honest. The stock scope and rings, or a cheap 1” tube, might be the inexpensive route, but if you plan to do more than shoot cans, you’ll want something better. You’ll never know what you’re missing until you have a better view—kind of like a person saying they don’t need prescription glasses, because they can still technically see without them.

You Don’t Have to Spend a Lot

True, there are some scopes we’d all like to wake up to on Christmas morning, but they don’t all have to cost you a second mortgage. We’ve got scopes on our list that cost hardly more than a dinner out for two, and dare we say, a better scope will feed you better in the long run.

Improved Durability

One of the most common reasons people don’t upgrade their scope or rings, or end up with a cheap replacement, is that they’re easy to replace with cheap, low-quality scopes and rings. Who wants to keep doing that? For a few bucks more, get something that will last, or even offers a lifetime warranty.

Customization

Do you shoot in low-light conditions? Do you find yourself switching from short to long range? Whatever your needs, each scope provides special features. Your stock option is a one-size-fits-all option whose only advantage is being included on your weapon when you got it.

Here are some of the few best scope mounts used by top shooters at the range. Now, let’s get to the list by unveiling our first item on the list:

Best Overall:
Tactical Solutions, LLC - Ruger 10/22 Picatinny Scope Mount

tactical solutions scope mount

Pros

  • Easy To Install
  • Super Strong Durability
  • Rugged, Versatile Design
  • It Can Accept Most Scopes Or Optics
  • Good Enough Length For Scopes That Have Long Eye Relief

Cons

  • Some Fitting May Be Required
  • It May Be a Little Challenging To Install
  • May Be a Little Too Long For Some Rifles

What Recent Buyers Report

A lot of recent buyers were happy with this scope mount. They were able to attach their scope of choice with ease. One user said that he has a rifle scope that had some long eye relief and needed a mount with enough space for him to use it to his advantage. This mount gave him exactly what he wanted.

Why it Stands Out to Us

The scope mount is long enough to take on many rifle scopes. Even some of the 10/22 rifles pack a powerful punch when it comes to recoil. So it will take a certain scope mount to accept certain scopes that will prevent that dreaded scope eye from happening (i.e--long eye relief scopes). The mount itself is made from high-quality aluminum, which is proven to be super durable and impervious to any impact.

This is a lightweight, aluminum scope that fits perfectly on the 10/22. The scope mount is so light that you don’t even feel the difference in the weight of the rifle. It doesn’t move at all, giving you a superior stability for the scope - and your aim.

The holders in this one are at the edge of the mount instead of throughout. This gives it a great look. It’s notched at various points so that you have the freedom to lock down rings, and therefore the scope, at any point.

Who Will Use This Most

This will probably be attached to many 10/22 rifles that will be used for hunting. A lot of rifle scopes are designed for hunting big game. Plus, they are a little too long for most scope mounts. So this is where the Tactical Solutions Picatinny Scope Mount shines the brightest.

What Could Be Improved and Why

Not a lot can be said about what needs improvement. But some additional screws should be included in the event of the rail not staying in place somehow. Also, the original set of screws might not be in the best shape (almost to the point of not being able to secure the rifle properly).

Bottom Line

The Tactical Solutions Picatinny Scope Mount has proven itself to be a reliable scope mount for almost any 10/22. Choose the scope you can depend on and you can be sure that you can easily attach it to this very mount.

Runner-up:
Weigand Combat - Ruger 10/22 Tactical Picatinny Scope Mount

Pros

  • Super Durable Quality
  • Accepts Many 10/22 Scopes
  • Easy To Install On Most 10/22 Rifles
  • Long Enough To Handle Long Eye Relief Scopes
  • Can Accept Either Weaver Or Picatinny Compatible Scopes

Cons

  • Some Fitting May Be Required
  • Some Scopes May Not Be Easy To Attach
  • It May Be a Little Challenging To Install For Some Users

What Recent Buyers Report

This scope mount was a hit with recent buyers. A lot of them were able to attach their favorite rifle scopes to it within a few minutes. Once all was said and done, they were able to see a boost in accuracy with their own 10/22 rifles. Overall, they were also satisfied with the quality and easy installation ability of the scope mount itself.

Why it Stands Out to Us

Once again, you’re dealing with a scope mount that is also long enough to take on almost any kind of rifle scope that many average mounts fail to take on. This includes scopes with longer eye relief (like your scout scopes). Other than that, if you want a scope mount that will reduce the risk of scope eye (hence why eye relief exists in the first place) then this is a prime example of that kind of mount.

The Weigand Combat Scope Mount is made up of an aluminum compound instead of pure soft aluminum. This provides it with longer durability and greater rigidity. The holes in the scope mount are aligned perfectly with the receiver on the rifle.

The scope accepts both Picatinny and weaver style rings. It has a slightly higher elevation at the bottom resulting in better alignment of the scope with the barrel

Who Will Use This Most

This will stand out as one of the best scope mounts that will be used for any type of purpose. Target shooting, hunting, and so on. Since it will have the ability to accept many scopes that can be accepted on either a Weaver or Picatinny rail, it makes it a lot easier to use.

What Could Be Improved and Why

A possible improvement idea would be to add another set of pre-drilled holes. It may add some guesswork, but it will give you a better chance of fitting more scopes. Some of these scopes won’t be properly aligned with the mount itself. But another set of additional holes can fix that issue.

Bottom Line

If you have a Weaver compatible scope or something that will easily fit on a Picatinny rail, then the Weigand Combat 10/22 scope mount might just be exactly what you’re looking for. No matter what the purpose, you’ll have a mount that will hold a scope firmly in place and prevent any kind of wiggle room from happening.

Best for the Money:
Dlask Arms

dlask arms scope mount

Pros

  • Easy To Install
  • Super Durable Construction
  • Accepts a Lot Of Rifle Scopes
  • Affordable For Most Budgets
  • Keeps Many Scopes in Place, Does Not Allow For Wiggle Room

Cons

  • It Might Be a Challenge To Install
  • May Not Accept Some Rifle Scopes
  • Some Were Not Satisfied With the Finish

What Recent Buyers Report

Most recent buyers were satisfied with this scope mount. Once they attached their scopes, they noticed that there was no wiggle room at all. One user said that the scope mount is so tough that after nearly 100 rounds, his zero settings stayed in place. He expects it to be the same after 1000 rounds.

Why it Stands Out to Us

This scope mount is by far one of the more affordable scope mounts on the market, and yet, it works as if it wants to have a higher price tag. If you want something affordable, but has a high-end performance and quality to it you know for sure it’s a must-have. Especially if you want to save money without sacrificing quality.

Dlask Arms’ Scope Mount is another tough, aluminum-based scope mount. The scope has a Picatinny slot for easier and quicker adjustments on the rings as needed. The scope mount extends over the barrel for longer eye relief or could be reversed for shorter eye relief.

The scope mount has three level adjustments and great flexibility allowing a great variety of scopes.

Who Will Use This Most

This will be used across many applications. So if you hunt, shoot targets, compete in shooting competitions or whatever else, this scope mount will serve you the best in the long run. It’s sturdy enough and can handle most rifle scopes that will work with any Ruger 10/22 rifle on the market.

What Could Be Improved and Why

This scope should have the potential to at least accept Weaver-style scopes. Yes, this will only accept scopes compatible with a Picatinny rail. For a scope mount to be this affordable, it also has the potential to be versatile as well.

Bottom Line

If you want a scope that’s affordable, sturdy, and can keep a lot of scopes in place securely then the DLASK Arms Ruger 10/22 Picatinny Scope Mount will probably be right up your alley. This might have a reasonable price tag, but don’t you ever write this off as something cheap and flimsy.

Top Rings For Your Scope Mount

In choosing rings for your mount, you have several great options as well. You want to be sure to get ones that will fit your scope and then will lock it down tight to the mount.

Here are our suggestions.

Review of the Best Ruger 10/22 Scope Rings

You can find more in depth reviews of each one of the scope mount rings mentioned above.

Best Overall:
Burris Signature Rings

burris signature rings

Pros

  • Super Durable Construction
  • Takes a Few Minutes To Install
  • Easy Windage and Elevation Adjustments
  • Does a Great Job Keeping Scopes in Place
  • Perfect Alignment, It Doesn’t Get Crooked At All

Cons

  • Installation Might Be a Challenge
  • May Not Fit Larger Objective Scopes
  • Adjustments Can Be a Little Difficult At First

What Recent Buyers Report

Most recent buyers were looking for a scope mount that was considered to be reliable. These scope rings from Burris did not disappoint them. Most of the new buyers were able to attach their 1-inch scopes in a few minutes. No wiggle room was reported and the zero settings on their scopes remained intact after 500 rounds.

Why it Stands Out to Us

Scope rings have long been relied upon. For many generations, they were commonplace on many hunting rifles. Even today, these scope rings are sturdier, easier to install, and will absorb a good amount of shock and recoil compared to the rings of ages past. Other than that, these rings, in particular, do a good job keeping a rifle scope straight and prevent any wiggling from happening.

These rings offer heights from 0.18” to 0.42”, measured from mount to bottom of your scope. The rear wing allows adjustment for windage. They use the double-dovetail design which helps prevent offset due to recoil.

Who Will Use This Most

This scope mount will likely be used by hunters. Many avid target shooters will probably get the best out of these scope mounts as well while they’re just firing off targets casually or taking part in a shooting competition that might help them go the distance against their competitors. Either way, it will be used by those who want reliability, stability, and better accuracy for their rifle.

What Could Be Improved and Why

The adjustments for windage and elevation should be a little easier right out of the box. That way, you’ll be able to make adjustments on the fly if the scope seems to be a little out of alignment. The easier you can adjust with fewer tools, the better off it will be.

Bottom Line

The Burris Signature Rings will have its place among many 10/22 users. Especially those who are a sucker for scope rings. Reliable for generations, these types of mounts still prove that they belong on rifles.

Runner-up:
Leupold - PRW Wings

leupold prw rings

Pros

  • Fits Most 10/22 Rifles
  • Easy To Secure and Install
  • Super Durable Construction
  • Fits Most Scopes With Large Scopes Perfectly
  • Keeps Scopes In Place, No Looseness Or Moving Around

Cons

  • Screws May Come Loose At Times
  • Some Scopes May Come Loose At Times
  • Some Alignment Issues Have Been Reported

What Recent Buyers Report

A lot of recent buyers were happy with this set of scope rings. They were able to install this in a matter of a couple of minutes. Once installed, they were able to fit their favorite scopes. Some of them had scopes with large objective (40mm or larger). One user said he uses it for hunting deer and elk. So far, he has had no complaints with it thus far.

Why it Stands Out to Us

Once again, these scope rings are by far one of the strongest on the market. They are also one of the more stable types of scope rings. These were built for hunting and target shooting like nothing else. So if you’re looking for something where a scope can stay stable for as many uses as possible, then you’ll want a good set of scope rings like these.

Leupold is recognized as a leader in the field. These rings are made of steel, so might carry a little extra weight. At the same time, they feature a square steel recoil lug to help keep your scope aligned. They’re easy to add to your mount and easy to adjust once there.

Who Will Use This Most

This will likely be used by those who are hunters and target shooters alike. These are scope rings you’ll need if you want to keep your scopes secure for as long as possible. Whether it's through thousands of rounds or years of service, these scope rings will work to your advantage and keep your scope’s settings preserved and not thrown off course.

What Could Be Improved and Why

A possible improvement would be to include some kind of adjustment that will allow you to keep the scope straight in case it somehow appears to be out of alignment. This way, you can make easy adjustments on the fly if and when needed.

Bottom Line

The Leupold PRW Rings are hands down one of the best scope rings you can invest in. Just add these onto your 10/22 rifle and you’ll have a good pair of rings that will last you years or even decades. With the right kind of scope, your accuracy will receive an excellent boost.

Best for the Money:
Weaver - Quad-lock Style

weaver quad lock rings

Pros

  • Excellent Durability
  • Super Tight Securing
  • Fits Most Rifle Scopes With Ease
  • Keeps Scopes In Place, No Wiggling
  • Easy To Adjust For Windage and Elevation

Cons

  • May Not Fit Some 10/22 Rifles
  • Installation Might Be a Challenge For Some
  • Some Larger Objective Scopes May Not Fit Properly With These Rings

What Recent Buyers Report

A lot of recent buyers were quite happy with these scope rings. They loved how sturdy they were and how the rings were able to keep their scopes in place. One user said that he expects the scope’s zero settings to stay intact even after hundreds of rounds.

Why it Stands Out to Us

These scope rings are by far one of the sturdiest on the market in terms of quality. They are made from high-quality aluminum that is impervious to any abuse and damage. So if you’re consistently throwing these on the ground, you won’t be able to scuff them. Aside from the durability, they allow your scope to be secured easily so it stays in place and remains protected from shock via recoil.

It’s the brand that’s provided the standard over the years. Weaver continues to produce high-quality equipment, and these mounts are no exception. This particular set of rings features two clamps on each base, providing more stability and clamping pressure.

Weight’s not an issue here, either, as they are fashioned of aluminum.

Who Will Use This Most

This will be used for general purposes. In other words, if you have a scope for your 10/22 rifle that can be used for just about anything, these mounts will be put to good use. If you want the best in durability and reliability, no other set of scope rings will come as close to these.

What Could Be Improved and Why

The one improvement idea that we can think of would be to make some small adjustments to allow for the fitting of scopes with larger objectives. Most hunters that want to hit their targets from long-range will often use scopes where objectives are 40mm wide or more.

Bottom Line

If you want the toughest scope rings in the business, the Weaver Quad Lock Rings are living proof. Especially if you need a scope mount that will work nicely with your Weaver rail. Just find the right kind of scope and you’re good to go.

How to Install Your Mount and Rings

The scope mount has slots where the base of the rings is fitted. But the rings shouldn’t be mounted until the scope mount is secured. This is done by using thread locks. Apply just enough thread lock and drive the screws in. You don’t want to go too hard, or you’ll end up peeling the threads on the receiver.

Let the thread lock dry, and leave the rifle there for 6 to 8 hours. Once you’ve made sure that the mount won’t move you can fix and tighten up the rings on it. The scope is then placed between the rings.

Conclusion

For better aim, you need a great scope. But you need to be sure that scope is properly supported by its mount and rings. You cannot compromise on the quality of scope mount or rings to reduce weight. Even a good scope will perform poorly without a good mount. A great mount is going to keep your custom 10/22 looking great and more importantly help you have truer aim.
